Too many Iowans know a family member or friend who is dealing with an addiction to opioids. We can and must do more to save lives from overdoses.
Today, I hosted a conversation on the opioid epidemic in Atlantic – where we heard from families that had lost loved ones to these illicit drugs, members of our law enforcement who are fighting it in our communities, and healthcare professionals who support addiction recovery. This discussion provided valuable insights into the tools communities need to address this crisis.
Go further➡️ Dangerous opioids are pouring over our Southern Border into our communities and there’s no doubt that the solution to this crisis starts with securing our border. At the same time, we can save lives with commonsense solutions. That’s why in Congress, I’ve already fought for bipartisan legislation to address this epidemic:
- My bipartisan bill to support Iowans suffering from addiction passed the House of Representatives in December.
- Last year, the FDA approved the first over-the-counter overdose reversal medication. I introduced bipartisan legislation, the Overdose Reversal Medication Act, to expand access to this life-saving medication.
- I voted for the most comprehensive border security legislation to prevent these dangerous drugs from flowing into our community.
- I’m also championing several bills to combat China and Mexico’s role in financing, manufacturing, and trafficking these drugs across our border.
