Did you know that 400,000 Iowans still don’t have a reliable internet connection? That’s a student who can’t finish their homework, a farmer who can’t use precision ag tools, or a senior who can’t access telehealth.
How we got here: The Biden administration poured $42 billion into the Commerce Department’s broadband program and promised to connect the entire country by 2030. But almost three years later, not one Iowa farm, business, or household has been connected.
Why it matters: In today’s world, poor connection means poor opportunity, and that’s holding back the students, farmers, and families building Iowa’s future.
That’s why I just introduced the ReConnecting Rural America Act — bipartisan legislation that would bring fast, reliable internet to every corner of our state.

Here’s how this $650 million investment would work for Iowans:
✅ Prioritize areas where 75% or more of households lack access
✅ Require strong speed standards: 100 Mbps up / 100 Mbps down
✅ Boost precision ag tools on Iowa farms and ranches
✅ Direct funding to communities facing persistent poverty and limited access
Bottom Line: When we connect Iowa, we unlock new opportunities for growth, education, and innovation. I’m fighting to make sure every community gets a fair shot.
