Iowa Innovation

As digital innovation accelerates, the next wave of technology — from finance to farming — will be shaped by whoever writes the rules first.

As a former cyber intelligence officer, I know what will happen if America hesitates: we’ll lose ground to our adversaries while innovation and jobs move overseas.

We need clear rules to ensure that doesn’t happen. Which is exactly the point I made in today’s joint hearing of the Financial Services and Agriculture Committees.

Right now, outdated and overlapping regulations are crowding out innovation that can and should be happening right here in Iowa.

For example: Iowa farmers are already using blockchain tools to track livestock and grain across the supply chain. While this kind of innovation improves food safety and brings down costs, the lack of clear rules prevent these technologies from scaling.

Bottom Line: Iowa is ready to lead, but we need Washington to catch up. I’ll keep the pressure on to ensure the rules made in D.C. empower innovation at home and U.S. leadership abroad.
