We’re finally seeing a drop in overdose deaths — and that’s no accident. It’s the result of community-driven solutions I’ve fought to expand through bipartisan legislation, along with President Trump’s border crackdown, that’s cutting off fentanyl at the source.
But this fight is far from over. More than 150 Americans still die every day from drug overdoses. In Iowa alone, we lost over 400 people last year — mothers, brothers, friends — to fentanyl and other synthetic opioids.

Earlier this year, I introduced the Communities of Recovery Reauthorization Act, a bipartisan bill that just passed the House. It builds on the progress we’ve made and invests almost $20 million into local, peer-led recovery programs that are changing lives, including:
📞 24/7 mental health support for those navigating addiction
🏠 Housing assistance to help people get back on their feet
🛠️ Job training to turn recovery into opportunity
🤝 Community-based care rooted in trust, connection, and support
Bottom Line: We need to double down on what’s working in the fight against fentanyl. I’ll keep leading the charge to invest in recovery and save lives right here in Iowa.
