Abuse doesn’t just happen in person anymore—it happens through phones, apps, and even smart devices. Survivors are being harassed, monitored, and intimidated through the very tools they rely on to communicate.
Why it matters: In 2021, 97% of victim service providers say they’ve seen an increase in tech-enabled abuse, and most support programs don’t have adequate tools or training to fight back.
📺 Watch this video to learn about the new bipartisan bill—the Tech Safety for Victims of Domestic Violence Act—that I introduced to help survivors stay safe and protect their privacy:
Here’s what the bill does:
🏥 Establishes up to 15 new tech safety clinics through the DOJ’s Office on Violence Against Women
📱 Provides secure devices and digital support tools to survivors
🎓 Funds training programs for college campuses and nonprofit advocates
🛠️ Builds on work I led in the Iowa Statehouse to protect survivors and modernize safety systems
Bottom Line: As a father of five daughters, I want every Iowan to feel safe—at home, at work, and online. I’m working to ensure our laws keep pace with technology and give survivors the tools they need to stay protected in today’s world.
