For too many young families, the dream of owning a first home feels out of reach. Rising costs and outdated federal rules are making it harder to build a life in our rural communities.
Why it matters: Affordable housing is the foundation for strong families, good schools, and vibrant communities — and right now, that foundation is cracking.
That’s why I joined colleagues on both sides of the aisle this week to spotlight the work we’re doing in D.C. to make homeownership a reality for more Iowa families.
My friend Rep. Emanuel Cleaver — a Democrat from Missouri — and I discussed our bill to fix outdated housing rules and give more families a fair shot at buying their first home.

We also spoke with Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner and Chairwoman Lisa McClain about HUD’s new housing initiatives.

From modular construction to innovative financing tools, we’re finding ways to expand options and help more families put down roots in communities across Iowa.
Bottom Line: Owning a home shouldn’t be out of reach for working families. I’ll keep fighting to cut red tape, update outdated rules, and deliver bipartisan solutions to help more Iowans become homeowners.
