As of 12:01 a.m., the federal government officially shut down after Congress failed to reach an agreement on a short-term funding bill. The result? Some agencies are closed, services are delayed, and families across Iowa are left wondering what comes next.
Back up: Just two weeks ago, I voted for a commonsense plan to keep the government open, ensure our troops are paid, and keep critical services running. Unfortunately, all but three Senate Democrats voted against it – triggering this shutdown.
Until then: While Washington gridlock continues, my priority is making sure Iowans get the help they need. Team Nunn is continuing to work full speed — not just to reopen the government, but to help Iowans cut through the mess in Washington.
Below is a quick breakdown of what continues, what changes, and how Team Nunn can help. ⬇️
What continues during a shutdown:
✅ USPS — Mail delivery continues
✅ Medicare & Medicaid — Coverage and services continue as normal
✅ VA Medical Services — Medical and veteran centers remain open
✅ Social Security — Payments will continue
What changes:
⚠️ Passport processing — Renewals may take 4-6 weeks or longer
⚠️ VA Support — Career counseling, GI Bill hotline, and some benefits may be delayed
⚠️ Federal employees and troops — Continue working, but won’t receive pay until the government reopens
How Team Nunn can help you:
✈️ Expedite delayed passports
🎖️ Assist with VA benefits and services
💰 Resolve IRS and tax concerns
👴 Support with Social Security and Medicare
📬 Troubleshoot other federal roadblocks
