🥫 No SNAP, No Excuses

It’s day 34 of the government shutdown — and for thousands of Iowa families, that means SNAP benefits are up in the air this month.

The problem: Over 130,000 Iowa households can’t access their SNAP benefits this month. The cost to fill the gap? $45 million — and Iowa can’t foot that bill alone.

The Trump administration is releasing emergency funds, but for many Iowans, it might not be enough. I’ve met with food pantries across the state, and I’m hearing the same thing: shelves are strained, and families need help now.

The good news: Iowa is stepping up. Governor Reynolds has directed the state to provide up to $1,000,000 in donation matching for Iowa’s six regional food banks and activate the Iowa National Guard to help move supplies across the state.

Bottom Line: While Washington stalls, Iowa steps up. But no family should have to rely on emergency donations to feed their kids. It’s time to reopen the government and get Iowa communities the support they need.
