🎨 Building on Iowa’s Legacy

In small towns across Iowa, history isn’t confined to museums — it lives on Main Street. And when local communities see an opportunity to build on that legacy, they are the first to step up.

That’s exactly what’s happening in Eldon this week.

What’s new: We secured $412,500 in federal funding to expand the education space at the American Gothic House Center — one of Iowa’s most iconic landmarks and a cornerstone of tourism and education in Wapello County.

Why it matters: Every year, the American Gothic House connects thousands of students, families, and visitors to Southeast Iowa’s history. This investment expands that reach, strengthens community ties, and helps fuel local economic growth.

The new classroom will:

📚 Host up to 100 students and visitors at a time

🎓 Expand year-round educational programming

🎭 Create more space for community events and gatherings

📈 Drive increased tourism and economic opportunity across Southeast Iowa

This is how progress happens. Local leaders identified the need. We secured the federal investment. And together, we’re building on Eldon’s legacy of the American Gothic House while creating opportunities for the next generation.

Bottom Line: Preserving Iowa’s history isn’t about maintaining the status quo — it’s about creating opportunity for the next generation. We’ll keep delivering results that strengthen our communities, grow local economies, and ensure Iowa’s story continues for generations to come.
