💵 Get What You’re Owed

Let’s be honest — nobody likes dealing with the IRS.

Whether you’re trying to fight an unfair ruling on your own, paying out of pocket for an expensive tax professional, or opening a letter in the mail saying you owe thousands — the system shouldn’t feel stacked against you.

The good news: We’re just 10 days out from Tax Day, and refunds are up 11% this year, meaning more money is going into the pockets of Iowa families. That’s real progress — and proof that relief from the Working Families Tax Cuts is starting to make a difference where it matters most.

But there’s more work to do.

The problem: Right now, when Iowans challenge an IRS decision, the process isn’t always truly independent. Too often, the same agency that made the initial call is still involved in the appeal — acting as both the judge and jury.

Why it matters: For Iowa families, a broken appeals process doesn’t stop at an IRS notice. It can mean extra accountant fees, months of back-and-forth, and hard-earned money tied up when budgets are already stretched thin.

Until the process is fixed, families who are right on the merits can still lose because the system wasn’t designed to give them a fair shot.

What’s new: That’s why we introduced the Strengthen Taxpayer Rights Act — so when an Iowa family challenges an IRS decision, they get a fair independent review, not one overseen by the same people who made the original call.

Bottom Line: Iowa families play by the rules. You deserve a system that does the same — with transparency, fairness, and a level playing field that makes sure you get every dollar you’ve earned.
