💰 One Week to Tax Day

With just one week until Tax Day, Iowa families are double-checking the numbers — making sure they’re not sending a dollar more than necessary to Washington.

Zoom in: We’ve fought to keep more of that money right here in Iowa by delivering the largest tax cut for working families in American history — putting an average of $3,139 back into the budgets of Iowa households.

Why it matters: Iowa leads the nation in fiscal discipline because our families balance their budgets and spend within their means. An extra $3,000 can mean covering groceries, making a mortgage payment, or investing in the future — the difference between getting ahead and falling behind.

April is Financial Literacy Month, and Iowa has long set the standard. During my time in the state legislature, I fought to make sure every Iowa student graduates with a strong foundation in financial responsibility. Now I’m working to bring those same common-sense principles to Washington.

The good news: For the first time since 1993, the House passed every single funding bill through regular order — building a budget the same way Iowa families do: line by line, with transparency and real accountability.

The challenge: The Senate still hasn’t finished the job. They continue to delay the final funding bill for DHS, prolonging a partial shutdown that’s left FEMA in limbo, TSA workers without pay, and critical terrorism prevention grants on hold.

Iowa families don’t get to skip their mortgage payment because the numbers don’t add up. I’m fighting to hold Congress to that same standard.

Bottom Line: I’m fighting to keep more of your hard-earned money in your pocket, bring real fiscal responsibility back to Washington, and hold leaders who put partisan politics ahead of their basic job of working together to fund the government accountable.
