When Social Security and Medicare were created, the government made a promise to America’s retirees that must be upheld. I’m appalled by politicians on both sides of the aisle that suggest cuts to these programs.
Depriving those who have paid in their entire life from the benefits they have earned is not an option. I will continue to work with Republicans and Democrats to find common ground on this issue to fulfill our obligation to the American people:
- I introduced the Protecting American Benefits Act, which will ensure Social Security, Medicare, and VA benefits are protected no matter what debt negotiations are happening in Washington, D.C.
- I’ve been visiting with retirees and staff at senior living centers to discuss improving care options throughout Iowa.
- I helped introduce the bipartisan Delivering for Seniors Act to help low-income seniors receive USDA healthy food boxes.
- The House Financial Services Committee recently passed my Protecting Retirees’ Savings Act, which prohibits an investing scheme that is leading to politically-skewed and lower return investment results in 401Ks, IRAs and other retirement investments.
Bottom line: there’s always more work to do to support Iowa’s retirees. I’ll fight with everything I have to protect your benefits and find new opportunities to support you.
