💸 $11 Million for Water Upgrades

Every Iowa family deserves safe drinking water every time they turn on the tap — which is why Congress passed bipartisan legislation to invest more than $50 billion in water infrastructure and remove dangerous contaminants like lead.

But here in Iowa, more than 160,000 lead-infected service pipes still carry water into homes — exposing families to long-term health risks.

The problem: Many of these water systems, especially in rural Iowa, don’t have the resources to plan, design, and build the upgrades needed to address the harmful contaminants in the water. Without federal support, these projects get delayed and the risk remains high.

Contaminated drinking water poses significant health risks, especially for children. The funding to fix it is there. Congress already passed the bill. Moving those dollars from a bank account in D.C. to a community in need should be as easy as turning on the tap.

What we’re doing: That’s why we’re leading the bipartisan Safe Drinking Water for Disadvantaged Communities Act, a commonsense fix to ensure 100% of federal lead pipe replacement funding is delivered as grants or forgivable loans for Iowa communities that need them most.

What’s new: We just got notice that we secured $11.5 million of federal funding to support clean drinking water projects across Iowa — real dollars that are already making a difference in underserved communities.

Bottom Line: Safe drinking water is a public health priority — and we’re delivering the tools and funding Iowa communities need to clean up the contaminants and protect our water.Â
