🚛 Delivering for Iowa’s Next Generation of Truckers

For years, students at Indian Hills Community College were learning to drive semis on a gravel lot that was too small for backing drills and turned into mud every time it rained. That’s no way to train the next generation of Iowa truckers.

That’s why I fought to secure a $1 million investment for a new Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training pad at Indian Hills. This week, we got to cut the ribbon on the finished project, giving students the space they need to prepare for a good-paying career on the open road. ⬇️

Why it matters: Iowa relies on nearly 38,000 truck drivers to keep our economy moving, and expanding hands-on CDL training here at home will help prepare more drivers to meet the needs of Iowa farmers and businesses.

The big picture: This project is part of the nearly $200 million we’ve delivered for communities across Iowa. And we’re not stopping there. I’m working to give more Iowans the opportunity to learn a trade, earn a good paycheck, and build a career close to home:

🔧 Investing nearly $5 million for workforce training at DMACC, Indian Hills, and Iowa Western Community College.

🤝 Supporting paid apprenticeships through our bipartisan PARTNERS Act, to connect community colleges with local employers so students can earn while they learn.

🚛 Fighting for tax credits of up to $10,000 for new truckers through our bipartisan Strengthening Supply Chains Through Truck Driver Incentives Act.

Bottom Line: A four-year degree isn’t the only path to a good-paying career. I’ll keep fighting to bring more opportunities like this back to Iowa so the next generation can build a successful future without leaving the communities they call home.
