Public service should be about serving people, not personal profit. That’s the principle I’ve followed throughout my life, from serving our country as a combat veteran in the United States Air Force to representing Iowans in the state legislature and now in Congress. I came to Washington to bring Iowa common sense to a government that too often puts politicians and special interests ahead of the people they’re supposed to serve.
Since my first day in Congress, I’ve made rooting out corruption and restoring accountability in Washington a top priority. One of the first bills I introduced was to ban Members of Congress and their families from trading individual stocks. When I was elected, I sold every individual stock I owned because I believe elected officials should be held to the same standards as the people they represent. After years of pushing for reform, I helped lead the bipartisan effort to pass the Stop Insider Trading Act through the House in 2026. Now, I’m fighting to get it across the finish line.
But banning congressional stock trading is only part of the solution. I’ve also led the bipartisan No Corruption in Government Act to end automatic pay raises for Members of Congress and triple the restrictions on former Members becoming lobbyists. I support congressional term limits because Washington shouldn’t be a place where politicians build lifelong careers at taxpayers’ expense. Iowans work hard for their paychecks, and their representatives should be focused on delivering results, not finding new ways to enrich themselves.
I’m also fighting to close Washington’s revolving door and hold politicians accountable even after they leave office. My bipartisan No Cashing In Act would prevent former Members of Congress from collecting full taxpayer-funded pensions while making money lobbying their former colleagues. I’ve also led legislation to strip congressional pensions from Members who are expelled or resign to avoid accountability for serious ethics violations. Public service is a privilege, and politicians who betray the public trust shouldn’t be rewarded with taxpayer dollars.
Accountability also means making sure the federal government works for the people who pay for it. I’ve fought to cut wasteful spending, reduce unnecessary bureaucracy, and make federal agencies more responsive to the Americans they serve. Whether it’s protecting taxpayer dollars, demanding answers from federal agencies, or working across party lines to fix broken systems, my focus remains on making Washington answer to Iowans, not the other way around.
The bottom line is that public office is a public trust. Iowans deserve honest, transparent representation from leaders who put service before self. Cleaning up Washington shouldn’t be a Republican or Democrat issue. It’s about restoring trust in government, holding politicians accountable, and making sure the people we elect work for us, not themselves.
